The wonderful multi-talented artist and musician Hamdy El-Dakrony from Aswan in Southern Egypt stands out withing the Nubian musical schene. He started his career in his tender teen age, as he was still in the third grade, playing accordion with the late folk artist Mohamed El-Ajouz, who was famous in the 1990's, both in Egypt and abroad. Hamdy Dakrony is also considered the first organist to work in Upper Egypt.
At a time when the first Nubian orchestras were forming, the first radio transmissions included Nubian songs and the first Nubian songs were recorded on tape and on camera, the exceptional musician Hamdy Dakrony not only accompanied and made the musical arrangement for the greatest Nubian artists of the time, both from Southern Egypt and from Northern Sudan, but he also wrote the lyrics and composed the melodies for many of their songs.
Hamdy Dakrony worked with the famous pioneers of the Nubian song, such as the late Abdo Mirghani, Shaaban Awad, and Ali Kobana, Khidhir El-Attar, and Ramadhan Ahmed, Mohamed Abu El-Sheikh, Hassan Jazouli, Abdel-Sabour Ghallab, followed by the next generation, Farah El Masry, Hassan El-Sagheer, Bisimbis, Ikrami Ismail, Assem Khitam, Eid Suleiman, Bibo Adam, Jiddo Seif (Mohammed Deheb), Hassan Abu Ras, Ezz Eldin Mohammed, Fedwa Mohammed Othman, Mohammed Hassan Alsaigh, Adel Arrab, Ahmed Kurdi, Zizo Taj and others. He also worked with various Nubian poets, among them the great poet and composer Ezz Eldin Abuzeid. Not only did Hamdy El-Dakrony accompany them during numerous concerts and events, he also established one of the first musical recording studios in Aswan, in which he recorded a great number of their songs. Beside Nubian songs Hamdy El-Dakrony also composed and played songs for Arabic artists and religious songs.
